Lehmann Marine, a specialist in marine energy storage and a subsidiary of the Sunlight Group, has completed its first installation in China by launching the modular CUBE battery system on the advanced AESEN 116H boat. This 42-meter-long boat is designed for the Singaporean operator AESEN, and its hybrid propulsion system offers a 30 to 40 percent fuel savings compared to conventional boats.
Installation at Chinese Shipyard
The AESEN 116H boat, built by Cheoy Lee shipyard in China, features a hybrid propulsion system designed by marine systems specialists Stin Global, marking a milestone for Lehmann Marine in Chinese shipbuilding. This contract reflects the ongoing demand for European system engineering in the competitive Asian shipbuilding sector, where proven safety and high operational reliability are key selection criteria.
Performance and Reliability of the CUBE System
The AESEN 116H boat utilizes Lehmann Marine's air-cooled CUBE battery system for reducing peak energy consumption and conducting emission-free maneuvers in port during high-frequency transit and marine logistics operations. This system has been selected in accordance with stringent safety standards for crew and class approvals from BV, DNV, LR, and RINA. The German-designed platform features a modular architecture that allows technicians to service or replace individual components directly on the vessel, preventing costly delays in dry-docking.
Alexander Lehmann, CEO of Lehmann Marine, states: “Serviceability is one of the practical strengths of our systems. Our modular approach significantly simplifies service tasks, assuring operators that support is available even after commissioning.”
This operational achievement is supported by the industrial scale of Lehmann Marine as a subsidiary of the Sunlight Group. Backed by the Sunlight Group's international manufacturing base, which has an annual production capacity of over 9 gigawatt-hours in Europe and North America, the company combines specialized marine system engineering with the strength of a global supply chain. This project is seen as a strategic platform for Lehmann Marine's commercial growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
