On October 13, 2026, KR (Korean Register) unveiled its cyber resilience platform pilot service, KR Cyber Resilience Platform (KR-CRP), at an event held at the Wyndham Grand Busan hotel. The event was attended by nearly a hundred executives from prominent Korean shipping companies and ship managers, including SK Shipping, H-Line Shipping, Hyundai LNG Shipping, HMM Ocean Service, and POS SM.

Introduction to the KR-CRP Platform

The KR-CRP platform provides a digital environment for preparing and managing design documentation required under the IACS Unified Requirement (UR) E26 regarding the cyber resilience of ships. This platform is connected to KR's plan approval and classification inspection processes, aimed at reducing the documentation and verification burden on shipowners and shipyards while improving compliance efficiency.

KR-CRP Inspection Support Features

During the event, a seminar on international regulations and cybersecurity response measures for ships was held, followed by details of the KR-CRP pilot service. Topics discussed included the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard regarding information security management systems, standard procedures for cybersecurity for shore managers, and KR-CRP for compliance with UR E26. Additionally, an exhibition demonstrated how KR-CRP can utilize data from security monitoring systems installed by third parties to support data-driven inspections and reduce onboard time.

KR also announced plans to establish an internal collaboration framework for rapid and systematic responses to cybersecurity incidents on ships. The certification team of this entity, which collaborates with shipping companies on ISM and ISPS Code inspections, will act as a single point of contact for incident reporting.

Feedback collected from shipowners and shipyards during the pilot service will also be used for the continuous improvement of KR-CRP's performance and usability. Yang Seok Lee, President and CEO of KR, stated, "As ships and shore systems become interconnected, cyber resilience quickly becomes a prerequisite for safe and reliable shipping."
