Jiangnan Shipyard has recently chosen TMC Compressors (TMC) as the supplier of the marine compressed air system for two large ammonia carriers (VLAC) being built for Eastern Pacific Shipping. This contract includes the provision of a complete marine compressed air system, including related control air compressors and services, for each of the two ships.
Technical Details of the Compressed Air System
The compressors used in this project have been developed based on TMC's unique design, specifically for marine and offshore use. These compressors are designed to enhance the operational efficiency of the ships. According to Hans-Petter Tanum, Sales and Business Development Manager at TMC, with the increasing demand for ammonia as a fuel and energy carrier, the large ammonia carrier sector has become a strategic and attractive market for the maritime industry.
Capacity and Advanced Design of the Ships
Each of the two VLACs has a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters. Reports indicate that these ships feature a new generation hull design with low resistance and are equipped with a dual-fuel LPG propulsion system that can reduce CO2 emissions by about 20% and nearly 99% of SOx emissions compared to traditional fuel systems. These technological features contribute to improved energy efficiency and reduced environmental impacts.
Tanum has also emphasized that TMC's technology development has always focused on energy efficiency, making the company suitable for this project. Although TMC has not yet disclosed the value of its contract with Jiangnan Shipyard, this collaboration could help strengthen TMC's position in the marine equipment market.
