Iran has put the import of electricity from Turkey and Azerbaijan on its agenda for the winter season to manage energy imbalance. Planning for sustainable energy supply throughout the year continues, and the main priority for grid management is to compensate for electricity imbalance through the development of regional exchanges.

Energy exchange with neighboring countries

According to current statistics, energy exchange with neighboring countries in summer includes the import of 500 megawatts and the export of about 150 to 160 megawatts. The Ministry of Energy has started coordinating with petrochemical industries to directly purchase imported electricity to alleviate part of the fuel shortage for thermal power plants during the cold months of the year.
