Thun Tankers, in line with the modernization of its fleet for short-term transport in Northern Europe, unveiled a new vessel named Thun Resilience on October ٩ at the Ferus Smit shipyard in the city of Leer, Germany. This vessel is the sixth in the series of ten R-Class product tankers designed to enhance transportation services in the short-term market.
Details of the unveiling ceremony
The unveiling ceremony was attended by special guest James Davis, Chief Supply Operations Officer at Valero, along with a number of business partners, colleagues, and representatives from the shipyard. The name Thun Resilience was chosen to signify the ability to remain reliable, adaptable, and resilient in changing conditions, which in the transport industry means maintaining safety and reliability in the operation of vessels, personnel, and supply chains during challenging times.

The important role of the short-term fleet
For Thun Tankers, this relates to the vital role of short-term transport in meeting the needs of related industries and communities. Reliable transport depends on vessels designed appropriately for their trades, experienced crews, and close collaboration among customers, partners, and colleagues on land. The R-Class vessels have been developed to provide efficient and reliable services in the short-term product tanker market in Northern Europe, focusing on efficient resource operations and long-term importance.
After delivery, the vessels will enter long-term employment on established trade routes and will collaborate with Thun Tankers' charter partners. Henrik Kalson, Vice President of the Erik Thun Group, stated: “We are proud to take another step in developing sustainable transport solutions with our partners. We sincerely thank everyone involved in this project.”
The unveiling of Thun Resilience follows the delivery of its sister vessel, Thun Response, which was unveiled in May. The delivery of Thun Response and the unveiling of Thun Resilience are further steps in the R-Class program, where each vessel is designed based on a proven concept developed for the needs of short-term trades in Northern Europe.
With an order of ten vessels in this series, this program contributes to the gradual modernization of the Thun Tankers fleet. The goal is to have vessels that can operate efficiently, serve customers reliably, and remain relevant throughout their operational life. Joakim Lund, Chief Commercial Officer of Thun Tankers, stated: “With the unveiling of Thun Resilience and the delivery of Thun Response, we are taking another step in the long-term development of our fleet and strengthening our ability to meet customer needs.”
