Iran's daily crude oil production capacity has been upgraded from 3 million and 430 thousand barrels in September 2023 to 3 million and 715 thousand barrels in October 2025. This growth of 285,000 barrels accounts for an operational leap of 8.3 percent and reflects ongoing efforts to improve production conditions under sanctions.

Optimization Strategies and Activation of Fields

Optimizing surface facilities and reviving idle assets are among the strategic focuses of this period. Restoring low-yield and closed wells to production, accelerating the completion of the West Karun joint fields, and improving processing arteries and pipeline lines are some of the actions taken in this regard.

In this framework, an emergency plan to increase crude oil production by 250,000 barrels has been launched with an investment package of 3 billion dollars. This project has so far succeeded in stabilizing a yield of 70,000 barrels per day. The financial structure of this project is supported by an 80 percent participation from the National Development Fund and a 20 percent share from the internal resources of the National Iranian Oil Company.

Development of Joint Fields and Transfer to the Private Sector

The upstream oil sector has approved large development packages worth approximately 13 billion euros in important fields such as Azadegan, Azar, Changuleh, and Band-e-Karkheh. Additionally, with the signing of new contracts, the capacity for outsourced processing to the private sector has reached 430,000 barrels per day.

In the drilling sector, 129 drilling rigs are operating around the clock, and with the signing of contracts for the supply of 20 new rigs, the drilling of 270 new wells is underway. These activities demonstrate a serious commitment to increasing production and improving efficiency in the country's oil industry.

However, the challenges ahead in maintaining the capacity of 3.7 million barrels are significant. The operating reservoirs in the country naturally face an annual production decline of between 8 to 10 percent, thus the oil industry must inevitably create about 300,000 barrels of new compensatory capacity each year.

Ultimately, registering Iran's capacity of 3.715 million barrels on the international economic scoreboard not only helps increase Iran's share in the oil market but also strengthens Tehran's diplomatic bargaining power in international arenas.
