Humbanto International Port (HIP) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the one million TEU mark in total container volume, marking an important accomplishment since the launch of new cranes in 2025. This success reflects rapid growth in the container operations of this port.

Recent Performance

In 2025, Humbanto Port processed 428,036 TEU, and in 2026 (to date), this figure has reached 574,196 TEU. The total for these two years amounts to 1,002,232 TEU, indicating the continuous expansion of HIP's container business and the increasing trust of customers in its operational capabilities.

Infrastructure Development and Investments

The CEO of HIP, Wilson Qu, stated that this achievement reflects the advancements made in developing Humbanto as a competitive container port for regional and international trade. He said, "Surpassing one million TEU is a strong sign of customer confidence in this port. We are investing in the entire container processing chain, from equipment and docks to warehouse space and refrigerated capacity, to prepare the port for its next phase of growth."

Humbanto Port, in collaboration with its main container client MSC, has recorded significant progress in 2026. In April, HIP set a new record for the handling of a ship by recording 7,968 container moves (equivalent to 13,260 TEU) by the MSC Marie Leslie vessel.

Another significant achievement was recording the highest monthly container processing volume in June with 80,325 TEU. These results demonstrate the operational readiness of the port and its existing capacity to face changes in major trade routes.

To support sustainable growth, HIP is undergoing a broad expansion of its container processing facilities. This includes investment in new equipment, optimizing dock usage, and developing warehouse space. This program includes six new cranes and 16 rubber-tired gantry cranes as part of the port's $108 million investment in container machinery.

The COO of HIP, Tommy Yang, stated that these investments are precisely aligned with the port's growth trajectory and the long-term demands of customers. He added, "Reaching one million TEU indicates that HIP's container business has entered a new phase of growth. Our investment strategy focuses on developing capacity ahead of demand and maintaining operational efficiency and financial sustainability."
