The seventh high-level OPEC-India energy dialogue was held on Tuesday (September 31) co-chaired by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, and Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC, in New Delhi. The main topics of discussion included oil market stability, energy security, and the importance of adequate and timely investment in the oil industry.

Reviewing Energy Outlooks

The two sides, while reviewing short-term, medium-term, and long-term outlooks, emphasized India's vital role in global economic development and energy demand growth. Hardeep Singh Puri, in his remarks, referred to the complementary and effective relationship between India and OPEC and appreciated the role of the Secretary General of this organization in strengthening this partnership.

He stated, "India values its long-standing cooperation with OPEC and the member countries of this organization. This interaction has helped mutual understanding and cooperation on important energy issues." Singh Puri also reminded that India, as one of the world's largest and fastest-growing economies, will continue to be a significant driver of global energy demand in the coming decades.

Emphasis on Continuation of Dialogue

The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India emphasized that the continuation of dialogue between producers and consumers is essential to support investment, enhance energy resilience, and ensure a reliable energy supply with the aim of global growth and development. Singh Puri, while appreciating OPEC's efforts to increase stability and transparency in global energy markets, especially in the face of geopolitical uncertainties and market fluctuations, called on OPEC and India to closely cooperate to strengthen balance, stability, and predictability in the global energy market.

Furthermore, Haitham Al Ghais stated, "Dialogue with India is a priority for OPEC, as we recognize the importance of this country in the current energy outlook and its increasing significance in the coming decades." The Secretary General of OPEC also referred to the initiation of the OPEC-India energy dialogue in 2015 in New Delhi and noted that this dialogue has now been held for the eleventh consecutive year.

Al Ghais appreciated India's balanced and pragmatic approach in facing energy challenges and stated that many of India's energy priorities are also OPEC's priorities. He also expressed gratitude for the Indian government's firm commitment to international cooperation and dialogue, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and dialogue as tools for addressing the major challenges of the present era.

At the end of this meeting, both sides appreciated the progress made in the energy dialogue and emphasized the vital importance of further strengthening OPEC-India cooperation in the energy sector. It was also agreed that the eighth high-level OPEC-India energy dialogue would be held at an appropriate time in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
