HD Hyundai Robotics has turned to robotics to tackle the chronic labor shortage in the U.S. shipbuilding industry. The company will participate in FABTECH 2026, the largest metal forming, manufacturing, welding, and finishing trade show in North America, from October 21 to 23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where it will showcase a range of robotic welding solutions for shipbuilding.
Introduction of Welding Robots
The focus of this exhibition will be on two mobile welding robots named ArcLift GO and ArcLift SLIDE. These systems are built on collaborative robotic platforms and are designed to operate in the confined spaces typical in shipbuilding. Workers can manually move these units, and multiple robots can operate simultaneously. These systems have been targeted to address the demand for modernization in U.S. shipyards that are facing challenges in attracting skilled welders, following performance evaluations in shipyards affiliated with HD Hyundai.

Smart and Automated Technologies
In addition to hardware, the company will also introduce smart automated technologies. ArcPak uses 3D scanning to identify the geometry of structural components and automatically generates welding paths. Additionally, ArcAdapt IQ monitors weld quality in real-time using artificial intelligence and adjusts welding parameters, including current and voltage. HD Hyundai Robotics plans to hold live demos during the exhibition and increase its sales efforts in the U.S. market.
The company has already received its first order in the North American shipbuilding sector. In May, HD Hyundai Robotics signed a supply agreement with Chouest Group in the United States for ArcLift GO. These systems are set to be deployed in three shipyards in North America, including one in Louisiana and one shipyard in Brazil. This agreement aligns with HD Hyundai's overall strategy to strengthen technology collaborations with U.S. industrial players, including Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), a major builder of U.S. military ships.
