Hamid Bord, the head of Iran's Ministry of Oil, announced the pursuit of gas negotiations with members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum ahead of his trip to Moscow for the eighth summit of the forum. He stated: "The development of oil fields and gas exchanges is the main axis of Iran's oil cooperation with Russia and a key approach to interacting with this country."
Bilateral meetings and gas negotiations
Bord announced at this meeting that, in addition to expressing the country's positions at the summit, bilateral meetings with the relevant ministers will also be held. He emphasized that discussions for mutual cooperation are also planned in these meetings. He added: "We must examine the issue of maintaining infrastructure in wars and also pursue gas exchanges with countries."
Creating a common market and export policies
The head of the Ministry of Oil also referred to the necessity of creating a common market and adopting uniform policies in the field of gas exports worldwide, stating: "This requires discussion and dialogue with various countries." Bord further mentioned the good relations with officials of Russian companies and noted that contracts have been signed for the development of oil fields with them and discussions about gas exchanges are ongoing.
In this regard, the development of Iran's oil fields, especially shared fields, can significantly strengthen gas relations with neighboring countries, especially Russia. Given Iran's high gas capacities and the growing global demand for energy, gas cooperation can bring new opportunities for the country.
It is noteworthy that Iran has large gas fields such as the South Pars gas field with a capacity of over 700 million cubic meters per day. This field, as one of the largest gas fields in the world, plays a key role in meeting domestic energy needs and also in exporting gas to neighboring countries.
