The Global Ocean Council participated in the fifth workshop on 'Corporate Data Exchange: mCDR / Blue Carbon' organized by the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership on September 18, 2026. This workshop aimed to explore the opportunities, incentives, and challenges related to corporate data exchange in the sectors of carbon dioxide removal from the sea (mCDR) and blue carbon.
Participation in the Workshop and Providing Insights
Jill Story, Oceanic Carbon Dioxide Removal Advisor at the Global Ocean Council, attended the workshop and provided insights on ocean data exchange and its role in advancing mCDR. This workshop is part of a larger series that examines corporate data exchange across various sectors of the blue economy, including ocean energy, offshore wind, fisheries and aquaculture, blue technology, blue carbon, and mCDR.
The Importance of Data Exchange in the Blue Economy
This series of workshops explores how improving data exchange can lead to more effective collaboration and help overcome barriers to data exchange across the blue economy. The work of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership in corporate data exchange also supports the development of a suitable ocean observation system for specific goals in Europe. These activities contribute to policy proposals for improving data governance in the context of the OceanEye project and identifying practical pathways for collaboration.
Through its participation in this workshop, the Global Ocean Council continues to contribute to joint efforts to enhance ocean data exchange and support a sustainable, competitive, resilient, and renewable blue economy.
