Brussels, as the political center of the European Union, is facing the electoral consequences of declining industrialization in Europe. The rising popularity of right-wing parties in local elections has revealed voters' serious concerns about globalist policies that have weakened industrial foundations. According to recent analyses, Nikoma experts predict that the upcoming elections in continental Europe will lean to the right.
New Import Restrictions
Reports indicate that the European Union is preparing restrictions on imports of goods including chemicals, furniture, and machinery from China. This action is intended to support domestic producers and reduce the massive trade deficit with China, which has currently reached $404 billion. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated: "Our industries called for action, and we have heard their voices and will respond, including with some additional protective measures."
Challenges in the Automotive Industry
The new protective proposals also include implementing restrictions on Chinese hybrid vehicles, which are set to take effect in December. This action is aimed at supporting the declining automotive industry in Europe, where low-cost foreign cars are increasing their market share, forcing companies like Volkswagen to reduce their workforce.
Brussels seems to be taking risks by choosing this path, which may lead to retaliation from Beijing, as its political power in Europe is weakening due to globalist policies that have undermined the continent's industrial foundations. Maro Šefović, the EU's trade chief, is scheduled to discuss trade issues with his Chinese counterparts early next year, while Brussels must act carefully to avoid provoking Beijing into imposing export restrictions on critical materials and permanent magnets.
Analysts believe that Brussels is currently willing to raise tariffs and limit imports. However, with increasing pressures, there is a risk that Beijing may cut off rare earth resources, which could severely impact struggling European factories.
