The synergy and consensus-building meeting for designing and implementing a comprehensive protection and restoration program for the Hoor al-Azim wetland was held today (Tuesday, October 5) at the Oil Engineering and Development Company. This event was attended by representatives from the oil industry, government agencies, local communities, NGOs, academics, and environmental activists, with the main goal of examining and formulating practical solutions for the protection of the Hoor al-Azim wetland.

Importance of the Hoor al-Azim Wetland

The Hoor al-Azim wetland, covering an area of nearly 3,500 square kilometers, is considered one of the largest wetlands in Iran and the Middle East. This wetland plays a very important role in the region's ecosystem and is recognized as a natural habitat for various species of birds and aquatic animals. Additionally, Hoor al-Azim is of great importance as a water source for agriculture and drinking water supply in the surrounding areas.

Protective and Restoration Programs

During this meeting, the attending representatives discussed and exchanged views on the existing challenges in the protection of the Hoor al-Azim wetland. Among the challenges raised were the reduction of water levels, pollution caused by the oil and petrochemical industries, and issues related to climate change. In this regard, the formulation of protective programs including water resource management, community education, and collaboration with international organizations for funding and financial resources were among the items approved.

Furthermore, defining joint research projects with universities and scientific centers to examine the environmental and ecological status of the wetland was also one of the main topics of discussion. These projects can help identify and better analyze the current conditions and ultimately lead to improvements in the wetland's status.

Consequences of Inter-Agency Cooperation

Additionally, the representatives present at the meeting emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation and active community participation. Creating the necessary infrastructure for collaboration among various government sectors and non-governmental organizations can help establish a comprehensive and effective program for the protection of the Hoor al-Azim wetland. These collaborations are particularly important in terms of securing funding and human resources for the implementation of protective projects and programs.

At the end of this meeting, a summary and conclusion of the discussed topics were made, and the participants agreed to soon operationalize the action plans. This action is considered an important step towards the protection of the Hoor al-Azim wetland and ensuring a sustainable future for this valuable ecosystem.
