BGN has ordered four LPG gas carriers with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI). This contract was signed in Istanbul, and the vessels are expected to be delivered by January 2030.

Details of the New Vessels

The new vessels are capable of using either LPG fuel or conventional marine fuel. With the delivery of these vessels, the number of ships owned by BGN will increase from 19 to 23. The company has a total of over 40 vessels, including owned and chartered ships.

Previous and Future Orders

Including this new order, BGN has ordered a total of 10 dual-fuel LPG carriers from HD HHI by 2026. In April, the company ordered four 90,000 cubic meter dual-fuel vessels capable of using conventional and low-emission fuels and transporting ammonia, with delivery expected by 2029. In June, two more 93,000 cubic meter dual-fuel LPG vessels were also ordered, which are also expected to be delivered by 2029.

In September, BGN signed a long-term charter agreement with Japanese tanker operator IINO Kaiun Kaisha for a 90,000 cubic meter dual-fuel LPG vessel being built by HD HHI, expected to be delivered by the end of December 2029. Additionally, in August, Kawasaki Heavy Industries delivered another dual-fuel LPG vessel named Lyla Pathfinder, which is being chartered to BGN by Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line).

Market Status of Gas Carriers

Other gas carrier owners have also taken steps to order LPG carriers. BW LPG has ordered eight 90,000 cubic meter dual-fuel LPG vessels from HD HHI, with deliveries scheduled from early 2029 to the second quarter of 2030. Additionally, Dorian LPG has ordered three vessels from Hanwha Ocean, with deliveries also expected in 2030.

Currently, 183 dual-fuel LPG vessels are operating globally, and another 165 vessels are under construction, expected to be completed by 2030.
