BGN (the Liquefied Natural Gas Transportation Company) has recently signed a contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) for the construction of four very large gas carriers (VLGCs) that are dual-fuel. Each of these vessels has a loading capacity of 93,000 cubic meters and is expected to be delivered in January 2030.
Strategy for Expanding LPG Transportation Capacity
This agreement was signed at an official ceremony in Istanbul and represents an important step in BGN's strategy to expand its LPG transportation capacity and strengthen the marine infrastructure supporting its global business operations. The new vessels will be equipped with dual-fuel technology, allowing the use of LPG and conventional marine fuels. This feature will help BGN operate more efficiently and adhere to the company's broader commitments to decarbonizing maritime transport.
Developing Relationships with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries
This order continues BGN's long-term relationship with HD HHI and follows previous agreements announced in 2026 for the construction of six additional dual-fuel VLGCs. This agreement includes four vessels with a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters announced in April and two vessels with a capacity of 93,000 cubic meters announced in June.
Ozan Turgut, BGN's transportation manager, stated: "We are very pleased with the speed at which BGN is expanding its transportation fleet. By accelerating investments in advanced vessels, we are creating the necessary capacity to support our strategic growth and diversify our global energy portfolio." These statements reflect BGN's determination to strengthen its position in the global energy market.
A spokesperson for HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also commented: "This agreement reinforces BGN's commitment to investing in advanced transportation infrastructure and forming strategic partnerships that lead to the development of this company's activities, strengthening the global energy supply chain, and pursuing long-term sustainable growth."
Investing in dual-fuel vessels not only helps BGN meet its environmental commitments but also aids in reducing operational costs and improving efficiency. Given the global trend towards decarbonization and the use of clean energy, BGN is well-positioned to capitalize on new opportunities in the maritime transportation industry.
