ABL has recently been appointed as the marine supervisor for the surface decommissioning operation of the Statfjord A field in the North Sea. This field, managed by Equinor, is currently undergoing a project for its surface removal and recycling due to the need for decommissioning.
Details of the Surface Decommissioning Project
The Statfjord A platform, a concrete-based production platform, is recognized as one of the important projects in the field of decommissioning. Allseas is responsible for the engineering, preparation, removal, and recycling of this platform. For this operation, the Pioneering Spirit vessel will be used, which has the capability to remove the entire surface of the platform in one operation.
The Pioneering Spirit vessel will upgrade its lifting systems from 48,000 tons to 60,000 tons for this operation. This upgrade is aimed at ensuring greater safety and efficiency during the surface decommissioning operations.
ABL's Role in the Decommissioning Operations
In this project, ABL is responsible for conducting independent technical reviews of the project procedures and providing marine assurance services to verify the compatibility of the proposed fleet. Additionally, the company will dispatch marine personnel to the site to oversee and verify the operations.
Sebastian Nokala, ABL's Country Manager in Norway, said: "We are pleased to support the safe execution of this surface decommissioning and marine lifting operation for Equinor, continuing our long-term relationship with Allseas in Norway." These statements reflect ABL's confidence in delivering quality services in large-scale projects.
The decommissioning operation of Statfjord A is considered not only an important project for ABL and Allseas but also a benchmark in the oil and gas industry. Given the large scale of this project and the need to adhere to safety standards, close collaboration among companies and various suppliers is inevitable.
Given the significance of this project, the decommissioning of Statfjord A could serve as a model for similar projects in the future and lead to further advancements in recycling and environmental preservation.
